The Tennessee Titans (11-7) and Kansas City Chiefs (13-4) both stand to gain a place in the Super Bowl this year as they face each other for the AFC Championship title this week.
If the Chiefs come out with a win, they stand to gain another place in the football record books.
Kansas City’s last Super Bowl victory was back in 1969 when they defeated the Minnesota Vikings.
So a win over the Titans would give the Chiefs their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, the widest gap between appearances in NFL history.
The Jets have the longest current drought between Super Bowl appearances at 51 years, last appearing in a Super Bowl in 1968.
The previous record was set by the Indianapolis Colts at 36 years, and the second-longest drought record is owned by the Green Bay Packers, who last made it to the Super Bowl in 1996, with the one before that being back in 1967 for a difference of 29 years.
It will be interesting to see how things shake out for the Chiefs, who are hot on a seven-game winning streak, recording their latest victory by topping the Houston Texans, 51-31 last week on their home turf.
The Titans and Chiefs are set to face off at 2:05 p.m. CST on Sunday in Arrowhead Stadium.
