Chiefs’ barber nearly clips QB Patrick Mahomes’ chance at repeat title

The Chiefs’ bid to repeat as NFL champions might’ve been upended not by Tom Brady, Ndamukong Suh and the Buccaneers, but by a barber.

Wide receiver Demarcus Robinson and backup center Daniel Kilgore went on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday as close contacts of an unspecified person who tested positive for the virus. It turns out, as multiple media outlets reported Wednesday, that person was a barber the Chiefs brought in Sunday for any player who wanted a cut before Super Bowl week.

Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes was among the players scheduled for a trim before the Chiefs received the barber’s positive test and immediately removed him.

And by immediately, they mean immediately. Kilgore was mid-haircut when the team received the result.

NFL protocol mandates that close contacts be removed from team activities for five days as a precaution. While Kilgore and Robinson can’t practice, they’re eligible to play Sunday if they continue testing negative.
