Chiefs backup LT Lucas Niang carted off after apparent knee injury

The Kansas City Chiefs’ offensive line situation is getting dire very quickly in this one.

After starting left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. was ruled questionable with a calf injury moments before the start of the game, the team leaned on second-year tackle Lucas Niang to fill in at the left tackle position.

Now, following an apparent knee injury to Niang in the opening quarter, the Chiefs are down to their third option at left tackle. Niang’s injury was bad enough that he required the cart, and fans shouldn’t expect him to return to this game. He’ll likely be ruled out by the team.

The Chiefs have moved their starting left guard, Joe Thuney, to left tackle. They have Nick Allegretti playing starting left guard as a result of this injury too. He has some experience at the position after starting many games at left guard last season. It hasn’t seemed to stop Kansas City from finding success on offense as the team has already scored 14 points in the first quarter.

With three quarters left to play, the depth situation for Kansas City is quite dire. The only remaining offensive line depth that the Chiefs have right now is center Austin Blythe. Both Prince Tega Wanogho and Kyle Long were declared inactive for Sunday.
