Chiefs attend WR Marcus Simms’ supplemental draft workout

The Kansas City Chiefs are doing their due diligence on at least one player available in Wednesday’s supplemental draft.

According to Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst, about 16 teams were in attendance to see former WVU WR Marcus Simms at his workout. There were some bigwigs, like Raiders GM Mike Mayock, but the Chiefs were one of the teams who sent scouts to the event. They also spent time with Simms after his workout.

Earlier we noted the Chiefs could have some interest in Simms. The continued lack of clarity around Tyreek Hill’s standing with the league could be driving them to do research here. If they feel that Simms is talented enough to make an impact as both a receiver and a return man, they could seek to add him to the team.

The workout that Simms went through for Scouts on July 1 was essentially a pro day. Here are the numbers that Pauline reported:

Height: 5-11
Weight: 188 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.40 (lowest of three)
Vertical jump: 36 inches
Broad jump: 122.5 inches
20-yard shuttle: 4.19
Three-cone drill: 6.91

His low 40-yard dash score would have placed him within the top-10 receivers at the combine. His scores are actually very similar to those of Chiefs rookie WR Mecole Hardman. Simms also spent about 30 minutes going through receiver and special teams drills.

The interest in Simms indicates he could be drafted or perhaps a coveted free agent following the conclusion of the supplemental draft.
