Chiefs Announce Plan for Patrick Mahomes, Starters vs. Cardinals

The Chiefs starters will play in the first half of their game on Saturday against the Cardinals, head coach Andy Reid announced on Thursday.

However, NFL Network’s James Palmer reported that Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and other key contributors on the team could possibly see less playing time in the first half, saying the “flow of the game” would dictate how long they remain on the field.

Kansas City kicked off preseason action with a 26–24 loss the Saints on Sunday. Every starter for the Chiefs played for the majority of the first quarter against New Orleans except for Mahomes.

The two-time Super Bowl champion played just one possession for Kansas City on Sunday after he avoided a hit to the head by sliding on a five-yard run. On that series, Mahomes also completed two passes to Clyde Edwards-Helaire for 15 yards.

Mahomes will make his second appearance in preseason action. The two-time NFL MVP also played in Kansas City’s first two preseason games ahead of the 2022 regular season.

After Kansas City’s clash with Arizona on Saturday, the Chiefs will play their final preseason game on Aug. 26 against the Browns.
