The Kansas City Chiefs have announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The team has officially placed starting LT Eric Fisher and rookie LB Willie Gay Jr. on injured reserve. Both players recently suffered season-ending injuries and were not expected to play in the Super Bowl.
These two moves clear roster space for the team to officially activate TE Deon Yelder from injured reserve and call up CB Chris Lammons from the practice squad. Yelder was designated to return from injured reserve earlier this week. He’ll provide a good blocking presence in the run game on Sunday.
Lammons is a stud special teams player for the Chiefs this season, so it’s no surprise to see him get a spot on the 53-man roster in the biggest game of the year. The Bucs’ kick coverage unit has struggled this year, so getting your best guys on the field is a smart move.

In addition to Yelder and Lammons’ activations, the Chiefs took full advantage of their two remaining standard elevations for Super Bowl LV. Marcus Kemp would likely be available as a replacement option in the event that Sammy Watkins was unable to play on Sunday. His questionable game status opens the need to have a replacement available.
Finally, Chiefs legend Matt Moore, who went 1-1 last season in place of then-injured QB Patrick Mahomes, got the last standard elevation. This is a smart move in the event that something were to happen to either Mahomes or backup QB Chad Henne ahead of gameday. If one were to say, test positive for COVID-19, it’d give Kansas City an option to step in without the team having to make a roster move.
