The Kansas City Chiefs have found a new way to recognize exemplary members of the community.
In honor of the team’s 60th season they’ve introduced what is called the “Lamar Hunt Legacy Seat” as a feature at Arrowhead Stadium. During each home game the team will honor a member of the community that has been nominated and selected to fill the seat. That community member will represent the spirit of the Chiefs founder Lamar Hunt. They’ll have to uphold these four pillars according to the nomination form:
“Win with Character, Honor Tradition, Inspire our Fans, and Unite our Community.”
Each honoree will receiver a pregame VIP experience and be recognized at some point during the game. This reminds me of what the Royals do with their “Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat” program. They honor a community member who embodies the spirit of O’Neil and recognize them during the broadcast of the game.
If the Chiefs are taking a page out of the Royals’ book, they chose a good one. It’s a kind way to not only honor Hunt’s memory, but also recognize those doing great things in the Kansas City community. Hopefully this seat is a staple of the organization for years to come.
You can nominate someone deserving of the “Lamar Hunt Legacy Seat” here.
