The Kansas City Chiefs have officially announced 17 undrafted free agent signings.
Each year undrafted free agents compete to make the 53-man roster and several succeed at that goal. Last year alone players like Darrel Williams and Ben Niemann were among players to find themselves making the team after final roster cuts.

Observations:
- The Chiefs have signed five undrafted free agent receivers. It’s a position of need given departures of Chris Conley and De’Anthony Thomas, plus the situation surrounding Tyreek Hill. Jamal Custis received a big contract guarantee, but don’t sleep on some of the other receivers. Jamire Jordan and Andre Lindsey are both mid 4.4 40-yard dash types. Felton Davis could even carve out a nice role.
- Cornerback is another spot they added a bunch of competition. Both Mark Fields and Jalin Burell ran in the 4.3 range at their respective combine and pro days.
- It’s interesting to me that they signed two quarterbacks with four already on the roster. There is going to be a lot of competition behind Patrick Mahomes and I’m curious to see who will come out on top.
- Finally the linebacker group gets some love with Gary Johnson and Darius Harris. It sounds like Harris is still dealing with an injury so he might not participate much. Johnson is a player that many thought would be drafted.
