Dec. 22--Chief Keef label FilmOn TV has sued the Chicago rapper's management team for interfering with his contract.
Chief Keef broke the contract he signed with FilmOn this spring by recording, writing, selling merchandise and performing since May without FilmOn's permission, according to the lawsuit filed Thursday in a Los Angeles court. The label is seeking millions of dollars in lost income, revenue, royalties and fees.
Label reps say they did not sign off on "Finally Rollin 2," which Chief Keef released in November, and "Nobody Part 2," released earlier this month.
"FilmOn Music is not suing Chief Keef because we do not believe in suing talent. We believe Keef has (once again been) mislead by his management," FilmOn head Alki David said in a statement to the Tribune.
The suit names Chief Keef's manager Peeda Pan, born Idris Wahid, and various producers. A rep for Chief Keef's management team did not respond to a Tribune request for comment.
The label recently suspended Chief Keef's contract and revoked his use of David's BMW i8.
Chief Keef, born Keith Cozart, signed the two-year FilmOn deal with option to renew earlier this year after being dropped by Interscope Records. He tried to hold hologram concerts this summer to benefit the family of a friend who was shot to death on the South Side, but Indiana police and Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office thwarted those efforts.
