Chief biomedical scientist at major hospital trust accused of 'drinking on the job'

A chief biomedical scientist at a major hospital trust is due to face a tribunal after allegedly drinking on the job.

Yvonne Hall, who worked at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Arrowe Park Hospital , is accused of consuming alcohol on two occasions in 2017.

Biomedical scientists analyse blood, fluid and tissue samples and are vital in diagnosing diseases.

Ms Hall will face a hearing of the Health Care Practitioners Tribunal Service (HCPTS) on April 12, and faces a range of sanctions including suspension or being struck off the medical register, if the charges are proved.

According to the tribunal listing, Ms Hall: "Whilst employed at Wirral Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the capacity of Chief Biomedical Scientist:

"On 9th November 2017 you consumed alcohol at work. On 10th November 2017 you consumed alcohol at work."

Wirral dad of two told his 'stomach bug' is actually incurable cancer

The HCPTS state the allegations amount to misconduct.

It is not clear whether Ms Hall is still employed at the trust.

A Wirral University Teaching Hospital spokesperson said: “As this investigation has been referred to the Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service we’re unable to make any further comment at this time.”
