Chicken product sold in Aldi recalled due to presence of salmonella

A southern fried chicken product has been recalled due to the presence of salmonella.

The batch of Roosters Southern Fried Poppin' Chicken sold in Aldi has been pulled from shelves.

The chicken comes in a 210g pack with the approval number PL 10610342 WE.

The affected product originates from Poland and has the batch number L:15320 and a best before date of 25/05/2022.

A notice posted on the Food Safety Authority of Ireland 's website said: "Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch. The implicated batch was sold in Aldi stores."

Salmonella can cause diarrhoea, fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

Infected people typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.

A FSAI spokesperson said: "The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.  Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

"The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness."

Retailers are asked to remove the implicated batch from sale and to display a point-of-sale recall notice in stores where the affected batch was sold.

Customers who have already bought the affected product should not eat it.
