Chicken crisis at Asda as supply issue leaves shelves empty

Supermarket giant Asda has apologised to customers affected by a supply issue which has left some of its stores without chicken.

Shoppers are reporting finding empty shelves at their local stores and a lack of chicken available.

In Liverpool, Asda's Huyton store is among those affected, with one customer left disappointed after not being able to get hold of the meat this week.

But the issue doesn't just seem to be affecting Liverpool stores, on Twitter user @ScudSSA shared a photo of bare shelves and said: "@Asda So it's 17:23 and there's no chicken?"

User @elliemoyses said: "Asda had barely anything! Absolute JOKE where's all the chicken gone??"

@dandiack said: "Still no chicken in @asda @AsdaServiceTeam Bridge of Dee. Guess it'll  have to be @sainsburys or @tesco."

And, @LouisaL23x said: "There's actual NAE chicken left in Asda! What happened to veganuary?"

The ECHO approached Asda to find out what the issue was who admitted it was caused by a "temporary supply issue" and some of its stores were in fact "currently low" on chicken.

A spokesperson said: “Due to a temporary supply issue, we are currently low on stock on some of our chicken lines in some stores.

"We’re working hard with our supplier to get more of these products back on our shelves as quickly as possible and would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this may have caused.’’
