CHICAGO _ Chicagoans woke up Friday to more than an inch of snow, but it's finally above zero _ and headed toward springlike temperatures by Sunday, with the thermometer expected to hit the 50s on Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
O'Hare International Airport and Midway Airport recorded 1.7 inches of snow by Friday morning, said Ben Deubelbeiss, a meteorologist for the weather service. There was a chance of flurries through the morning, but it was expected to dry by Friday's afternoon commute, Deubelbeiss said.
Commuters dealt Friday with some aftereffects of this week's polar vortex cold snap, with South Shore and Metra Electric service down for a third day, and other Metra lines and some CTA lines experiencing delays because of weather-related equipment issues.
After hitting a low of 23 below zero early Wednesday at O'Hare, temperatures were forecast to hit 52 degrees by Monday morning, according to the weather service's hourly forecast. Temperatures were expected to climb to about 20 degrees Friday, according to the weather service.
