Chicagoan cut from 'RuPaul's Drag Race' for not knowing Lady Gaga song

March 08--There was little applause for Naysha Lopez's lip-sync performance of Lady Gaga's song "Applause" in Monday's episode of "RuPaul's Drag Race."

The Boystown entertainer, who lives on the Northwest Side, was cut from the show in the Season 8 premiere for not knowing the words to "Applause" and creating a "drag-on-a-dime" runway dress that some judges said looked cheap.

Lopez, whose birth name is Fabian Rodriguez, said she didn't know how to sew when she joined the Logo show. The 12 contestants were tasked with creating an outfit inspired by a past "RuPaul's Drag Race" design challenge.

"Should I have come to this competition knowing how to sew? Absolutely," Lopez, 31, said on the after-show. "Even just a little."

Lopez, who auditioned for the show four times, faced off against Laila McQueen in a lip-sync battle to keep her spot in the competition. Lopez, who was repeatedly praised by the judges for her beauty, said she didn't know the words to "Applause" because she's a Madonna fan and she "didn't feel together" after the judges' critiques of her dress.

Meanwhile, Andersonville resident Kim Chi, 28, wowed the judges with her kitten outfit and she won Monday's round.

"RuPaul's Drag Race" airs 8 p.m. Mondays. The winner gets $100,000.
