Yoán Moncada, Jake Lamb, Yasmani Grandal and Tim Anderson hit solo home runs to lead the Chicago White Sox to a 4-1 victory against the Detroit Tigers on Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Moncada hit an opposite-field home run, his fifth of the season, to left against Tigers starter Casey Mize in the first inning. Lamb hit a 412-foot solo homer, his fourth of the season, to right against Mize in the second.
The Tigers cut the lead in half on Willi Castro’s solo home run in the fifth. That was the only run Sox starter Lance Lynn allowed in his six innings as he improved to 7-1.
Pushed back a day after Wednesday’s game in Cleveland was postponed because of rain, Lynn pitched on normal rest. He struck out six, walked two and surrendered four hits in his 89-pitch outing.
Reliever Aaron Bummer struck out two in a scoreless seventh for the Sox. Grandal hit a 457-foot home run to right-center, his seventh of the season, off Mize in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-1.
Mize allowed three runs on five hits with six strikeouts in seven innings.
Sox reliever Evan Marshall struck out two in a perfect eighth inning. Anderson hit his sixth homer, a solo shot to center against reliever Daniel Norris, in the bottom of the inning.
The Sox were not happy with the third strike called on Moncada for the final out of the eighth. Pitcher Lucas Giolito, watching from the dugout, was ejected.
Closer Liam Hendriks struck out two in the ninth and earned his 14th save as the Sox won for the eighth time in 11 games.
