The Chicago White Sox wasted a strong start by Lance Lynn on Thursday afternoon in a 4-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians in the series finale, ending their opening homestand at 3-3.
Jose Ramirez’s two-out, two-run, run home run off Lynn erased a 1-0 Sox lead in the sixth, sending Lynn to his first defeat in three starts. The Indians added a pair of insurance runs off Garrett Crochet and Michael Kopech.
Tim Anderson, who suffered a hamstring injury April 7 during the opening series against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim, Calif., returned from the injured list and went 2-for-5 at the top of the order.
The team has started slowly offensively though picked it up Wednesday in an 8-0 victory that featured Carlos Rodón’s no-hitter and near-perfect game.
How will the Sox offense look with Anderson back at the top?
“Like last night,” he said with a laugh. “But a little bit more.”
Coincidentally, it was Jackie Robinson Day in baseball, when every player paid tribute to the legend by wearing No. 42.
“It definitely means a lot to come back on his day and be able to put the No. 42 on,” Anderson said. “Man, it speaks for itself. We know how special this day is. Everybody knows. I couldn’t be happier to be back on this day, and I’m going to wear that No. 42 with honor and pride today.”
Lynn, who threw a complete-game shutout last week against the Kansas City Royals, had not allowed an earned run in two starts. The Sox fell to 6-7.
