Chicago Tribune Tom Skilling column

Aug. 26--Chicagoans experienced partly cloudy skies Tuesday with temperatures working their way into the lower 70s -- except close to the lakefront, where readings stayed in the 60s.

It was the coolest Aug. 25 here in 18 years and the lowest temperature since a 67-degree high July 8. The unseasonably cool weather will hang around another day before southerly winds bring a little higher but still below-normal temperatures the latter half of the week.

Low pressure will approach from the west Friday, bringing an increase in cloudiness and a chance of rain overnight. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday as the center of low pressure passes overhead.

A ridge of high pressure will build into our area beginning Sunday with southerly winds boosting readings well into the 80s the first part of next week -- possibly even reaching 90 by Tuesday.
