Nov. 03--Summary

The Blackhawks lost 1-0 to the Jets on Sunday night, falling for the fifth time in their last seven games. It was their second straight 1-0 loss at the United Center. Former Hawks forward Michael Frolik scored 20 seconds into the game, getting an assist from Andrew Ladd, who also played for Chicago. The Hawks outshot Winnipeg 33-27 but did no better than registering two shots that hit the post, courtesy of Patrick Sharp and Jonathan Toews. Sharp got a semi-breakaway after charging out of the penalty box.

In the nets

Corey Crawford stopped 26 of 27 shots in his first back-to-back effort following a six-game injury absence. Some thought coach Joel Quenneville would start Antti Raanta, but Quenneville had confidence in his ace, saying: "Corey likes to play all the games, to be honest with you." Jets coach Paul Maurice, meanwhile, gave Ondrej Pavalec a rare breather, opting for backup Michael Hutchinson. "He'll be the most rested guy in our lineup," Maurice promised, "so he should be good." He was better than good, as was the Jets' defense. "You have to give them credit," Hawks forward Kris Versteeg said. "They were diving all over and keeping the puck out of their net."

1,000 club

Marian Hossa was saluted before the game for becoming the 80th player to reach 1,000 points. NHL executive Jim Gregory presented him with a Tiffany crystal, and Hawks GM Stan Bowman awarded him with a gold puck.

The quote

Crawford: "Look at the amount of skill in our room. If we work hard, bare down on our chances, we're going to score goals. No doubt about it."
