Dec. 15--The summary

The Blackhawks rallied for a 2-1 victory over the Flames, dominating the game's final period to improve to 10-3-1 at home. Jonathan Toews had the primary assist on both goals. He hit Patrick Sharp with a gorgeous across-the-net feed nine seconds into the Hawks' first power play to tie the score. With just over seven minutes to play, Toews hit Brandon Saad, who fired to the top corner to beat Jonas Hiller on his glove side. Antti Raanta improved to 4-2 by turning away 23 shots. The Hawks put 28 on net, 10 in the final period. The Flames have lost five straight.

Tribune's three stars

1. Toews: The captain had terrific feeds on the Hawks' two goals.

2. Saad: His seventh goal of the season was a game-winner. And he was effective on the penalty kill.

3. Raanta: Let only one shot get past him in his first action since Dec. 5.

The quote

Coach Joel Quenneville before the game on what the Hawks could do to improve their power play: "We could score a goal; that would be nice."

Big number

4 All four of Sharp's goals this season have come on a power play.

One goal, may goalies

Raanta got the call after Scott Darling faced 41 shots against the Islanders on Saturday night. As Quenneville put it before the game: "No matter who's been in, our goaltending has been outstanding. (Darling) has been big, solid, really consistent." Corey Crawford (lower-body injury) is expected to return next weekend, perhaps for Saturday's game in Columbus.

Up next

The Hawks host the Wild at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
