April 08--The TSA says it made $674,841.06 in loose change left behind by travelers at airport checkpoints in fiscal 2014, including $21,068.69 at O'Hare and $9,286.83 at Midway. Not bad for a nickel-and-dime operation.

That's literally found money for the Transportation Security Administration. But you know the saying: A penny saved was a penny spurned.

Alaska Airlines, The Washington Post says, has now decided to compensate a woman with cancer it booted from a flight from Hawaii to California because she lacked a doctor's note saying she could fly. Otherwise, others might have wondered if they needed their heads examined before flying the airline.

Authorities have questioned an Indonesian man who flew Tuesday from Sumatra to Jakarta, clinging to the landing gear of a commercial airplane. No word on whether he gets frequent flier miles.

Now that guy needs a note from his doctor to fly.

Not one politician called to interrupt dinner last night. It's as if they only pretended we mattered so they could get something they wanted from us.

Propose, pass and enforce a law prohibiting robocalls and you might just win our vote. Might.

The FCC has fined AT $25 million for failing to protect the Social Security numbers and other data of about 300,000 U.S. customers from theft by employees at its call centers abroad. Can't say we weren't warned. AT's old slogan: "Your World. Delivered."

Thursday is former Chicagoan Hugh Hefner's 89th birthday. Hef has an as-yet unreleased project in which, unlike Playboy, people will care only about the articles. It's his will.
