March 05--Netflix has greenlit a TV series called "OA" from Chicago native Brit Marling and her writing partner Zal Batmanglij.
The pair previously teamed up on the films "Sound of My Voice" (2011) and "The East" (2013), both of which also starred Marling.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, "The premise of the drama series is being closely guarded and kept under wraps, but Marling will star and co-write alongside Batmanglij, who will direct." The show is expected to debut next year.
Marling grew up in Winnetka and was a Georgetown University valedictorian headed to a job at Goldman Sachs when she changed course to pursue filmmaking.
"I was attracted to acting because I studied economics in school, and then I was going to go work at a bank," she told the Tribune's Mark Caro in 2013. "I think I reached a place where I thought it was very strange how we move away from qualities that we have pretty naturally as kids, like we're very imaginative and empathic and intuitive, and then you move away from those as you become an adult. And I love that acting was all about going back to that space."
