Chicago Tribune Nina Metz column

March 04--The freshman TV Land comedy "Teachers," created by and starring a group of improvisers from Chicago, has been picked up for a second season, according to Variety.

The show, which follows the ribald, often supremely unprofessional travails of six elementary school teachers, is getting a 20-episode season next year. That is twice as long as its initial run, which is nearing its finale. The show airs 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays on TV Land (right after "Younger") and is heading into Episode 9 next week.

The show has been among the more sly comedies of the season and there's a true Chicago sensibility at work: All six characters are fully developed and distinctively twisted. You believe in this demented world they have created for themselves, full of alcohol sweats and desperation.

If you haven't caught up with the show, it's worth checking out the last two episodes of Season 1.
