April 27--Chicago improv veteran and "Pitch Perfect" screenwriter Kay Cannon will be back performing a special one-night show in Chicago Saturday at iO Theater.
Among those scheduled to join her on stage are "Saturday Night Live" alum Katie Rich (who works on Weekend Update) and T.J. Jagodowski (of "T.J. Dave" fame, the top-notch long-running iO improv show), plus other alumni of iO and Second City.
Proceeds from the show ($25 a head) will benefit Steps of Faith, a foundation that provides prosthetic limbs for amputees in need.
Cannon, who grew up in Braidwood, Ill. -- a town she jokingly described as "in the middle of nowhere" when I interviewed her last year -- is set to direct her first feature film, a comedy called "The Pact," about "parents who scheme to foil their daughters' virginity-losing prom-night pact," per Deadline. Seth Rogen is a producer on the film.
You can read my full interview with Cannon here, where she talks about shifting from performing on stage to writing, first on "30 Rock" and later on the "Pitch Perfect" films.
