Chicago Tribune Heidi Stevens column

April 16--You may consider developing a taste for Mumford Sons if you want to land a date this summer.

The British rockers are scheduled to perform at Montrose Beach on June 17, and the word "beach," apparently, is your golden ticket out of lonely town.

Dating site Zoosk analyzed more than 600,000 online conversations in seven cities to determine which phrases were most effective in prompting a reply.

The beach was suggested as a date most often in Los Angeles, not surprisingly, with Chicagoans and other cities' singles more likely to suggest dinner, drinks or coffee.

But Chicagoans who mentioned the beach were 7.2 times more likely to receive a reply to their proposal than Windy City residents who mentioned more traditional outings, according to Zoosk.

Denver singles also like sandy dates, with a beach mention increasing the likelihood of a response by 5.3 times. In Boston and Dallas, a dinner offer is most likely to get a response.

In Los Angeles, mentioning drinks increases your chance of getting a response by 6 times, while in Indianapolis, a mention of drinks ups your response likelihood 7.7 times. In Indianapolis, mentioning coffee makes you 6 times more likely to get a response.

Coffee dates were suggested more frequently in Denver than any other city, and drinks were mentioned more frequently in New York than other cities.

All of which leads us to one conclusion: Proposing a picnic of drinks and dinner at the beach, followed by coffee, is practically a sure thing.
