March 08--Chicago architect Jeanne Gang is having quite a moment.

Named the 2016 Woman Architect of the Year last week by a British magazine, Gang won a plum job Tuesday: Design of a new U.S. embassy compound in Brasilia.

To be located on an existing 12-acre complex in the city's diplomatic zone, the project will include a chancery, a Marine security guard residence, perimeter security and facilities for the embassy comnunity, the State Department said in a news release.

A design has not yet been prepared.

Gang's Chicago-based firm, Studio Gang Architects, bested five other shortlisted firms, including Steven Holl Architects of New York and Morphosis of Culver City, Calif.
