Chicago police recruit suffers graze wound when his gun accidentally goes off at academy range

A Chicago police recruit was hurt when his gun accidentally went off at the police academy on the Near West Side Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 9:20 a.m. at the academy’s gun range in the 1300 block of West Jackson Boulevard, according to Chicago police source.

The recruit was taken to a hospital in fair condition, the source said. No other injuries were reported.

Police said an internal investigation was underway.
