Chicago Police Officer Shot And Killed, Gun And Car Stolen

Migrants seek shelter at the District 12 station of the Chicago Police Department in Chicago

Early Sunday morning, Chicago police officer Luis Huesca, 30, was fatally shot while driving home from work in Gage Park. Responding to a gunshot detection, officers found Huesca outside his home with gunshot wounds. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.

During the attack, Huesca's vehicle was stolen and later recovered nearby. Reports also suggest that his gun was taken, although this has not been officially confirmed by the Chicago police.

Notably, the location of the shooting was where Huesca's colleague, Officer Andrews Vasquez-Lasso, was also shot and killed in the line of duty last year, just days before his 31st birthday.

As of now, no suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident. Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano expressed concerns about the safety of law enforcement officials in the city, emphasizing the dangers they face.

Napolitano highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in Chicago, describing it as one of the most perilous professions in the city. He criticized the city's leadership for allegedly prioritizing other issues over the safety of its citizens and law enforcement officers.
