Chicago police: Boy, 15, steals delivery truck at gunpoint, then crashes

CHICAGO _ A 15-year-old was arrested after Chicago police said he robbed a delivery driver at gunpoint and fled with her truck Wednesday morning on the South Side.

The driver, a 46-year-old woman, was walking toward a home in the 7500 block of South Green Street in the Gresham neighborhood around 9:15 a.m. to make a delivery, police said.

A car pulled up alongside her, and a 15-year-old boy got out brandishing a handgun, police said.

The woman threw her keys at him, and he drove off, making it nearly 2 miles before crashing into a car in the 6700 block of South Wentworth Avenue in Englewood, police said.

He continued driving south on Wentworth but hit a fence and stopped, police said. He got out and began running away, but officers chased him and took him into custody.

The boy was injured in the crash and was taken in good condition to St. Bernard Hospital.

The delivery driver was not hurt.

Police said they were searching for a second person in the car.
