Chicago options market closes floor to combat coronavirus

Cboe Global Markets will temporarily close its options trading floor starting Monday. | AP

Cboe Global Markets said it will temporarily close its options trading floor beginning Monday to combat the coronavirus. Options trading will continue on electronic platforms.

“This is a proactive measure and not in response to any confirmed cases of COVID-19,” the company said in its announcement. “Cboe is closely monitoring developments around COVID-19 and is following guidance provided by governmental and public health agencies to evaluate reopening of its trading floor.”

The trading floor is at 400 S. La Salle St.

Floor trading for the Chicago futures markets owned by CME Group also is scheduled to close indefinitely Monday, with electronic systems picking up any slack.
