Chicago man charged with robbery of Burbank bank

Jan. 15--A Chicago man has been charged in the weekend robbery of a Burbank bank, according to federal court documents.

Martez Jackson, 44, of Chicago, appeared in federal court Wednesday, charged with the robbery Saturday of the Byline Bank in the 4800 block of West 87th Street, documents say.

FBI agents arrested Jackson earlier Wednesday as he left the parking of a Best Western motel in Dolton. According to the charging documents, Jackson later confessed to robbing the bank.

The robbery took place about 11 a.m. Saturday when a man carrying a white plastic bag entered the bank and asked, "Who's going to help me?" before approaching a teller and ordering her to put all the $50 and $100 bills in the bag.

As the woman filled the bag, the man then demanded she place all the currency in the bag, which she did, according to court files. The man then left with about $7,100, according to documents.

Authorities released surveillance footage and said two members of the public came forward to say they recognized Jackson. A witness living near the bank told police that the suspected robber drove away in a vehicle that matched the description of Jackson's car, authorities said.

In addition, authorities say they found a shirt in Jackson's car that was consistent with one worn by the robber.
