May 02--Three people were killed and at least 25 were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend, ending the month with at least two more slayings than April 2015, according to data kept by the Tribune.
At least 37 people were killed in April of this year, compared with 35 during the same month last year. The month saw at least 304 people shot across the city. At least 234 people were shot last April.
The weekend's shootings stretched as far north as Edgewater, where a 21-year-old woman was fatally shot while in a car with her boyfriend early Monday, and as far south as West Pullman, where a 65-year-old man was shot in a backyard Sunday night.
On Saturday afternoon, a shootout between a 17-year-old boy and a 36-year-old man in Englewood ended with the boy injured and the man killed.
The two -- both gang members, according to police -- began shooting at each other at 1:20 p.m. The teen was shot in the leg, and the man, identified as Deitrick Stogner, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital. The teen was taken into custody.
An hour later, three people were injured -- one critically -- when someone opened fire on them from across the street in West Woodlawn. A 31-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot multiple times.
In total, eight people were shot and one was killed from Friday evening to early Saturday; one person was killed and 13 injured Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning; and one person killed and four injured Sunday morning to early Monday.
