Chicago locks: Chicago Harbor Lock and O’Brien Lock and Dam "are operational"

Tim Prokop asked a question this morning on Facebook that I realized I should probably get an answer to.

Anyone know if we can still lock through if we launch at waterfront pub?

Waterfront Pub is a popular spot for launching on the Calumet system and accessing Lake Calumet as well as Lake Michigan.

I had not seen any mention of locks being closed in the Chicago area, so I doublechecked the latest on the coronavirus from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District. Click here to read that update.

I called Patrick Bray, chief of public affairs at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District. He said both the Chicago Harbor Lock and the T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam “are operational.” But nobody can go in and out of the facilities.
