Chicago police are searching for a man who uses social media to meet people and steal their phones in Chicago Lawn on the Southwest Side.

In each incident, the man meets people on social media and convinces them to meet up with him in person, Chicago police said. Once they are together, he steals their cellphone, sometimes by force.

The man has robbed five people between Aug. 3 and Aug. 22, police said. Each time, he met the victim in the afternoon in the 6200 or 6300 block of South Sacramento Avenue.

The suspect was described as a man in his early to mid-20s, police said.

Anyone with information about these robberies is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.
