Chicago Craft Beer Week 2015 dates announced

Jan. 19--The sixth annual Chicago Craft Beer Week will be May 14-24 and will conclude with a new event in the Ravenswood neighborhood called 47th Fest, organizers said Monday.

The week -- or, more accurately, 11 days -- devoted to the swiftly growing craft beer industry will again begin with Beer Under Glass at Garfield Park Conservatory on May 14, said Justin Maynard, executive director of the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild.

47th Fest, named for the ward in which it will be held, replaces West Loop Craft Beer Fest, which was the closing event during the past two years.

"We decided to start rotating the closing festival around different communities that support craft beer throughout the city," Maynard said by email. "We may run this in Ravenswood for another year, and then switch up in 2017. Who knows!"

A specific location for 47th Fest has not been selected, but it "will definitely be outdoors," Maynard said. It will be held May 23.

Last year's Craft Beer Week was the city's largest yet, with an estimated 60 breweries pouring beer at 550 events at more than 350 bars, restaurants and brewpubs. Chicago Craft Beer Week debuted in 2010 with 25 breweries taking part in about 320 events.
