April 24--Chicago Children's Theatre announced its full 2015-16 season on Friday. The lineup, among six other productions, features a new play from the writer Nambi E. Kelley.
First is the return of the Mermaid Theater of Nova Scotia with "Goodnight Moon The Runaway Bunny" (Sept. 29-Oct. 11). The theater's take on Margaret Wise's stories features puppetry and original music.
Then comes the previously announced "The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane" (Oct. 23-Nov. 15), adapted from Kate DiCamillo's book by Dwayne Hartford, and directed by Stuart Carden.
A new show, "A Snowy Day with Beatrix Potter Friends" (Nov. 28; Dec. 5, 12 and 19), devised by Will Bishop, will play in the winter.
Next is "Snowflake" (Jan. 27-Feb. 14), Gale LaJoye's song-filled story about a person who enriches peoples' lives with optimism.
Another Canadian company (Canadians, like Chicagoans, know winter well), the Quest Theatre from Calgary, brings its precipitation celebration "Snow Angel" to Chicago in February (16-21).
"Seedfolks" by Paul Fleischman will play in April (6-17). One woman plays 14 characters working together to create a community garden.
Finally comes the new work by Kelley, a play about the civil rights movement told from a child's perspective. The yet untitled show will be directed by Lili-Anne Brown.
Chicago Children's Theatre performs at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts, 1016 N. Dearborn St.
