Chicago Bears safety DeAndre Houston-Carson intercepted Carolina Panthers quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with 1:32 to play to seal the Bears' 23-16 victory Sunday afternoon.
That play was one of several big ones for the Bears defense, which came to the rescue often to help the Bears improve to 5-1 for the first time since 2012. The defense had two interceptions and a forced fumble.
The second interception came after the Bears offense ran just 15 seconds off the clock on what might have been the final drive of the game.
The Panthers were driving in the final two minutes, but Panthers wide receiver D.J. Moore dropped a good pass from Bridgewater on fourth-and-2. That gave the Bears the ball, but they had to punt just four plays later, giving the Panthers one more opportunity.
Houston-Carson's first career interception in five NFL seasons came on the Panthers' first play of the following drive.
