Chicago-area postal worker competing on 'Survivor: Kaoh Rong'

Jan. 20--Calumet City's Darnell Hamilton said working at the postal service has prepared him for the upcoming season of "Survivor: Kaoh Rong."

"I'm going to tell you right now that the postal service lives up to its reputation of 'postal' so I've been playing this 'Survivor' game well before I even got out here," Hamilton said in a video clip CBS posted Wednesday in announcing the new "Survivor" cast.

Hamilton, 27, is one of 18 contestants battling for the $1 million prize in the show's 32nd season, set in Cambodia and scheduled to premiere 7 p.m. Feb. 17. The contestants will be divided into three teams--brains, brawn and beauty.

Hamilton, who is playing for the brawn team, said he graduated high school with a 2.0 grade point average but he worked hard at achieving success. Hamilton said he has street smarts and hopes to be a role model for people with troubled pasts.

"Some people gonna hate and say you ain't gonna make it ... but what do I say? Hater-ation is my motivation," Hamilton said.

The last season of "Survivor," which featured former contestants battling for redemption, included Chicago trader Spencer Bledsoe, who made it to the finals before losing to Massachusetts firefighter Jeremy Collins.
