Chiang Rai festival comes to BKK

Held annually in December and January, "The Colours Of Doi Tung Festival" is one of Chiang Rai's biggest happenings.

The same vibe has been recreated in Bangkok with the "Kard Doi Tung At Central Chidlom" event organised by Central Department Store in collaboration with The Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage.

Until Sunday, Central Chidlom's The Event Hall is transformed into a kard (a northern Thai word meaning market) to showcase products from the Doi Tung Development Project (DTDP) initiated by HRH The Princess Mother.

The event features a photo exhibition in homage to the late Princess Mother and King Bhumibol Adulyadej, depicting royal activities under the DTDP, which has holistically provided people with a licit and sustainable livelihood. The Princess Mother resided at Doi Tung Royal Villa, whose chief cook, Kreurwan Gaboongum, has come from Chiang Rai to be one of the event's highlights, sharing recipes as well as preparing four types of chilli paste made with local produce.

Agricultural produce, handicrafts as well as handwoven clothing and scarves from the Nature-to-Wear collection are among the Doi Tung products retailed at the northern-style marketplace.

Visitors can also savour northern fare, such as khao soi, sip coffee at Cafe DoiTung or join in decorating mulberry paper or painting a tribal handbag workshops.
