RAIPUR: A senior doctor of a private hospital was allegedly thrashed inside the office of state women’s commission by the personal assistant of commission’s chairperson in Chhattisgarh capital of Saturday.
An FIR was lodged against the alleged accused Abhishek Singh, PA of state women’s commission chairperson Kiranmayee Nayak.
Dr Rakesh Gupta, president of IMA Chhattisgarh Hospital Board said that large number of doctors were gathered outside women commission’s office and that after this attack Dr Manoj Lahoti wasn’t is normal state of mind.
"Feeling extremely humiliated and emotionally broken, Dr Lahoti might not be able to start working anytime soon, and medical fraternity is extremely upset about this attack." Dr Gupta said.
Dr Lahoti who is director of a private hospital was summoned at women’s commission, for which he appeared on Saturday noon. A complaint was lodged by a woman at Saraswati Nagar police station who alleged that the doctor had made her sit at hospital empty stomach on pretext of a lab test from morning to evening and had also objected for calling him on his personal phone. The incident took place about three years back and the matter was forwarded to state women’s commission.
As per the information, the doctor was summoned at commission’s office two-three times earlier and he failed to appear. When he was called again on Saturday, he appeared at the commission but the personal assistant of chairperson Kiranmayee Nayak allegedly thrashed him.
Alleged accused Abhishek Singh called the doctor inside a room, locked it and allegedly beat him multiple times. Chairperson Nayak wasn’t present at the commission’s office when the incident took place and she did not accept the calls when TOI contacted her.
The doctor somehow managed to come out of the commission’s office and informed his family and other colleagues when an FIR was lodged at Civil Lines police station under Sections 294, 323, 506, 342, 357, 392 of the IPC.
A police officer said that Singh was taken in custody and police were struggling to take him out from the premises of commission’s office as there was sea of doctors gathered outside.
