NAGPUR: After a dominant display in their league, knockout rounds Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu girl's teams will square up in the summit clash of the 48th sub-junior national basketball championship in Puducherry on Wednesday. The boy's final will be played between defending champions Mizoram and Uttar Pradesh.
The seven-day national championship for boys and girls is organised by Pondicherry Basketball Association under the aegis of Basketball Federation of India (BFI).
In the girls' semifinals played on Tuesday, Tamil Nadu girl's outplayed Kerala in a lop-sided contest 54-18 while Chhattisgarh got the better of Maharashtra 64-47 at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
For Tamil Nadu, Kaviya M emerged as the top scorer with 14 points as Subhadra Jayakumar (12) played well for Kerala. In the other high-scoring semifinal, Divya Rangari (14) and Anusha Sontakke (16) did well for Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra respectively.
In the boys semifinals, Uttar Pradesh edged out the spirited challenge from Madhya Pradesh marginally by two points (53-51) after leading 31-22 at the halfway mark. For the winners, Bharath Rathore top scored with 14 points.
In the second semifinal, Mizoram defeated Haryana 68-40 with Emmanuel (21) and Lafakkzuala (15) doing the bulk of the scoring. For Haryana, Hardhik (14) and Rohith Rathee (10) did well.
