Chhattisgarh: Maoist killed in encounter

RAIPUR: Security forces gunned down a Maoist during an encounter between the District Reserve Guards (DRG) and the Maoists on Friday afternoon in the forests surrounding Etepal in Katekalyan area of Dantewada district in tribal Bastar region.

Police said the Maoist has been identified as Madhvi Kosa, area committee member of Katekalyan area and was carrying a reward of Rs. 5,00,000. The deceased Maoist had around 17 cases registered against him in Dantewada in connection with Maoist violence.

After the encounter that took place around 1600 hours, security personnel also recovered one country-made weapon and daily use articles from the spot. Police said a combing operation has been carried out in and around the Etepal forests to flush out other Maoists, who might have retreated into the nearby forests.
