RAIPUR: An industrialist was booked for alleged evasion of GST tax worth Rs 7.2 crore and raising fake invoices worth Rs 3.2 crore under Input Tax Credit.
Chhattisgarh Good and Service Tax (CGST) and Central Excise Raipur carried out a search at the office and factory of an iron and steel industrialist located Donde Kalan on Tuesday.
The official statement issued by CGST department reads, “On preliminary investigation it was found an industrialist of iron and steel sector had wrongly availed Input Tax Credit amounting Rs 3.2 crores on basis of bogus invoices issued by many firms. It is also revealed that he was involved in clandestine removal of goods without paying Rs 4 crore GST. He also evaded approximately Rs 7.2 crore GST.”
As per joint commissioner Shrawan Kumar Bansal, during investigation it was found that the industrialist had availed Input Tax Credit on bogus invoices valued Rs 17.8 Crores of various non-existent fake firms. The offences are punishable under Section 132 of the CGST Act 2017 and thus the owner was arrested by the officials of CGST and Central Excise Raipur under provisions of Section 69 (1) of the CGST Act 2017. The owner of Shyamji industries was produced before the court on Tuesday and was remanded 14 days judicial custody.
