RAIPUR: Three eco-friendly ideal polling stations have been established in Kanker district of Bastar division that goes to polls in the first phase of assembly elections on November 7. These polling booths are decorated with bamboo, twigs and leaves and there will be no usage of plastic at all.
Kanker District administration has come up with novel ideas of combining voters awareness for not only 100 % voting but also due sensitisation of electors towards clean and green environment and climate sensitive ecologically sustainable practices during the first phase polling scheduled on November 7, said Kanker collector Priyanka Shukla.
Kanker district administration along with the forest department officials has set up three cco-friendly green model polling stations- one in each constituency of Chivranj in Kanker, Dhangudra in Bhanupratapur and Sohgaon in Antagarh assembly constituencies.
These polling stations have been decorated with locally available vegetation, bamboos etc. The waiting area and corridors have been covered with green vegetation sheds. The decoration of walls has also been done with the local vegetation. Earthen utensils have been kept for drinking water among others, said Alok Bajpai, DFO, Kanker.
No plastic has been used in setting up these polling stations, he said adding that the polling stations have been furnished with eco-friendly materials. These eco-friendly green model polling stations will not only attract voters and ensure their hundred percent electoral participation but will also serve as a gentle reminder for the voters as well as the polling officials to adopt eco friendly practices,
