Jaffer, Parkar amongst six Mumbai players in India U-23 camp

Even as their senior team looks well-poised to enter the Ranji Trophy finals after a six-year gap, more good news is pouring in for Mumbai cricket.

TOI has learnt that six Mumbai players -Arman Jaffer, Saksham Jha, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Suved Parkar, Ayaz Khan and Himanshu Veer Singh have been picked for an India Under-23 camp emerging camp at Mysore, Bangalore and Anantpur from July 11 to August 4. Mumbai won the Under-25 CK Nayudu Trophy, and reached the final of the Under-25 Cooch Behar Trophy this season.

Jaffer scored 127 for Mumbai on Friday, Day Four of their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Uttar Pradesh, at Bangalore. Parkar slammed 252 on his First-Class debut, against Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals earlier this month. Jaffer, Parkar, Raghuvanshi, and Jha played for the Mumbai Under-25 side, while Ayaz Khan, who was a part of the Mumbai Under-25 side too but couldn’t get a game, and Himanshu Veer Singh (off-spinner) featured for the Mumbai Under-19 team this season. Ayaz scored 84 in the semifinals against Rajasthan, and trains under Jwala Singh, who coached Mumbai opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

“The camp will be held at three places, with 25 boys at each venue. The selected players will have to report on July 10. There’s no Emerging tournament scheduled to be held in the near future, but it’s good to keep the U-25, U-19 boys in the groove,” a source said.
