Chesterfield caretaker boss set for talks with Notts County over Ross Fitzsimons

Chesterfield's caretaker manager John Pemberton is unsure whether Ross Fitzsimons will return to the club after Notts County recalled the goalkeeper from his loan spell.

Just a week after moving to the Pro Act, Fitzsimons headed back to the Magpies on Friday after first-choice stopper Sam Slocombe suffered an injury in training.

He subsequently played in Notts' 2-0 defeat at Dagenham at the weekend but boss Neal Ardley has refused to rule out signing another goalkeeper putting Fitzsimons' future back in the spotlight.

Should Notts decide to move  in the market, the likelihood is that Fitzsimons will be allowed to return to Chesterfield and Pemberton admits he will be talking to Notts about their stance on the goalkeeper.

"Whether they (County) are going to bring one in which will free him  (Ross) I can have that conversation probably next week," Pemberton told the Derbyshire Times.

"We could not do anything else but have the 24-hour callback.

"We just did not think that was going to happen because they have another goalkeeper but they decided not to use him so he has had to go back.

“Whether they have got someone else lined-up, or that they are looking, which then frees him again, I don't know but I have now got to try and get some cover. That is my priority now at the moment.”
