Chesney Hawkes ruined Dancing On Ice chances when he turned up to rehearsals hungover

Chesney Hawkes has revealed that he blew his chances to join Dancing On Ice when he turned up to rehearsals with a bad hangover.

The 49-year-old pop singer has opened up about his missed opportunity after a boozy night on the town cost him his place in the ITV dance competition.

The One And Only hitmaker was meant to show off his skills on the famous ice rink a couple of years ago, but he ruined his chances by falling over and injuring his ankle.

Chesney admitted that his fall took place on New Year’s Day, after some booze-fuelled celebrations the night before.

“I was meant to be on Dancing On Ice a couple of years ago and I was actually quite good at the skating, but not the dancing,” he told Women’s Own.

“Then I fell over and fractured my ankle. I did all the rehearsals and the training, then it was New Year’s Day and I was a little hungover from the night before and I fell over on the ice.

“A tip here – don't ice-skate hungover,” he quipped.

Chesney went on to reveal that even to this day, he will avoid ice skating at any given opportunity.

“I was on crutches for ages and I am now a bit scared of the ice,” he admitted.

Although he didn’t make it to the live shows on Dancing On Ice, it gave Chesney a reason to focus on his music career.

Opening up about his current projects, Chesney revealed that he’s excited for the year ahead.

“I have so many projects on the go. I have a new album coming out this year, and there’s lots of new music I’ve written in lockdown.

“I’ve also written a musical which I want to try and get on the stage.”
