Cheshire MP received threatening email warning 'remainer' members 'you are all dead'

A Cheshire MP who was ousted from the Tory party has shared a threatening message she found in her email inbox.

Antoinette Sandbach lost a local vote of confidence on Tuesday night meaning she will no longer be able to run as a Conservative Party candidate in her constituency of Eddisbury at the next election.

She took to Twitter to share a screen shot of an email she received overnight, which targeted "ignorant remainer MPs" and warned "you are all dead".

Ms Sandbach was one of 21 Tory rebels who saw the party whip removed by prime minister Boris Johnson after rebelling against the Government in a September Commons vote intended to block a no-deal Brexit.

Part of the threatening message, which the MP shared this morning, reads: "Your family must be very proud of you by putting their future in jeopardy by trying to stop Brexit.

"Make sure you and your remain t***ish MPs keep looking over your shoulders because BOOM BANG you are all dead."

The sender also told the MP that "women shouldn't be in politics as you can't think under pressure" and suggested she "stand down and just look after your family as all women should".

In a statement to her constituents, Ms Sandbach said: "That politics has become so toxic that people see fit to send lies, abuse and even death threats to me is a sign that our democracy is ailing.

"However, I have always stood up to bullies, and these kind of threats will not stop me from doing my job - representing you.

"Perhaps my daughter Sacha said it best at the vote last night, when she saw how unpleasant some members of the local Conservative Party were.

"She told them that: 'Some of the language you adults use we wouldn't be allowed to use at school. We are taught respect, and values, and I don't see that in the way some people have behaved towards my mother. She has taught me to stand up to bullies, and I watch and hear as you spread lies and gossip about her that isn't true. You should be proud of her rather than undermining her.'

"Rest assured I will continue to stand up for my constituency and my country.  I will continue to stand up to bullies.  Most of all, I will continue to do what is right and will work tirelessly to pay back the faith so many people have in me."
