Cheshire-based Tidy Tot sees overseas demand soar as it enters Chinese market

A Wilmslow-based company that sells baby bibs and trays has seen its overseas demand grow significantly.

Tidy Tot, which exports to more than 25 countries, has estimated 1 in 10 babies in Hong Kong own one of its products.

Jennifer Unsworth launched Tidy Tot in 2015 to eliminate the mess associated with infant feeding.

This year saw Tidy Tot enter the Chinese market, with sales of more than £200,000 planned in China for 2020.

Its main export markets are Hong Kong, Australia, Thailand, Canada, France and Spain.

Since its creation, Tidy Tot has been working with the Department for International Trade (DIT) on its export strategy.

Ms Unsworth said: “We’ve been really encouraged by how well our products have been received in a number of countries, and thanks to DIT we’ve been able to grow our exports year on year.

“Just this week we’ve launched a new product, the Cover & Catch bib and this is testament to the quality of our product and the growth of demand around the world.

“If small businesses like ours can export to over 25 countries then I’m sure that many others can too.”

The DIT said the UK has exported £124.9m worth of baby clothing and accessories in the year to August, up by 25.1 per cent from the previous year.

There was significant growth in Hong Kong, which saw exports rise 650 per cent to £9.3m. Exports to the United Arab Emirates rose by more than 150 per cent to £4.4m.

Paul Stowers, head of the north west region at the DIT, said: “Businesses of all shapes and sizes in the north west are tapping into global demand for their goods and services, and Tidy Tot is a fantastic example of this.”
