Cheryl tricked into thinking Italians in quarantine were singing one of her songs

Geordie star Cheryl was targeted by tricksters who convinced her that Italians in quarantine were singing of one her hits in a show of solidarity.

As the country went into lockdown several videos circulated on social media of Italian residents singing and cheering from their balconies after being told to stay in their homes due to the spread of coronavirus.

But while some of them were genuine, there were others that had been doctored by tricksters and one of those, was of isolated Italians singing Cheryl's debut solo number one Fight For This Love.

After someone tweeted the now deleted clip to Cheryl she posted it on her account with the caption: "I’m not crying."

However, after them becoming aware that it was a hoax, the 36-year-old, who also hit the top spot with Promise This, Call My Name, Crazy Stupid Love and I Don't Care, responded: "Babe ! ... they got me ( Sweet brown voice). still a beautiful sentiment all the same."

The fact Cheryl fell for the prank didn't go unnoticed. Someone tweeted: "Cheryl Cole thinking self-quarantined Italians are howling 'fight for this love' into the nights sky is so far is my favorite thing to come from corona."

A second joked: "Cheryl Cole adding corona icon to her resume," and another added: "Thought they videos of the Italians singing songs like Toxic by Britney and Fight for this love by Cheryl were real and am upset."

Cheryl wasn't the only star targeted, other stars to fall for the doctored video hoax included Katy Perry and Madonna.
