Cheryl praises Sunderland's Lily and Joseph after emotional The Greatest Dancer final

She wept watching The Greatest Dancer act Lily and Joseph perform for the final time.

Now Cheryl has made an emotional tribute to the Sunderland dancers who made it to the final of the BBC dance show.

Taking to Instagram, the former Girls Aloud singer said: "So proud and happy to have been part of this magical adventure Lily and Joseph have been on.

"Every year I tell myself I am not going to get emotionally invested in my acts.

"I am just going to mentor with my advice and experiences.

"Yet here I am completely in love.

"Congratulations on being finalists. I miss you already."

They were one of three finalists on the show, with ballroom duo Michael and Jowita and solo dancer Harrison taking to the stage.

Cheryl, and the other dance captains, Oti Mabuse, Matthew Morrison and Todrick Hall, all took to the stage with their acts.

The 36-year-old joined Lily and Joseph to perform a dream-like routine to Pure Imagination from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

Joseph Chow, eight, and Lily Straughan, 11, who both train at The Worx - Dance Theatre Arts in Sunderland, took to social media to say they'd had the time of their lives on the show.

The dancers also thanked Cheryl for being their dance captain.

Writing on Instagram, they said: "What just happened!!!! You are just the best dance captain in the whole wide world. We love you the absolute world!! And gonna miss you with all our hearts.

"What a dream come true it was dancing with you.

"We are so, so grateful for you being our dance captain it doesn't it doesn't even seem real.

"You are literally like a big sister to us. Love you so so so so so so much Chery!!!"

It was Michael and Jovita that were named the winners of the show, taking home the £50,000 prize and they will perform on Strictly Come Dancing.
